GeoVation is about helping communities address their unmet needs through the application of geographic data, skills and expertise. GeoVation runs challenges to address specific needs within communities, which may be satisfied in part through the use of geography. Supported by the Association for Geographic Information, w3gconf is a free, one day conference, themed on the "3 W's of Geo". Large in scope but intimate in scale, w3gconf is targeted firmly at the geographic community at large, from the geographic professional, be they GIS or Web 2.0 to the latent geographer who's heard about this thing called "location" and wants to know more. w3gconf will take place in the Holiday Inn, Stratford upon Avon, on the 28th. Working closely with colleagues in the US, in Spain and in India to implement internal and public facing geo technology products which allow geotagging of content to a range of granularities, provide the means and incentives for users to locate themselves, to match users to geolocated content and to geo-enrich structured and unstructured content. Responsible for geo technology products to enable geotargeting initiatives within the company, to support public facing geo initiatives such as geotagging support for Flickr.com, the underlying geo engine for the Fire Eagle location broker and the GeoPlanet geo-referencing platform. Passionate about the applications, scope and impact of today's location enabled devices and applications, has spoken and presented at a wide range of events including #geomob, the British Computer Society, State of the Map, Where 2.0 and location themed mashup* events.

The UK Location User Group is an advisory body, reporting to the UK Location Council. Its purpose is to ensure that the implementation of the UK Location Strategy and the INSPIRE Directive through the UK Location Programme are driven by user needs and priorities and that benefits are gained by a wide range of stakeholders across the UK.
The mission of the Points of Interest Working Group, is to develop technical specifications for the representation of "Points of Interest" information on the Web.

The AGI is the UK umbrella organisation for geographical information. Currently comprising 17 individuals, all Council members are nominated/elected for a three-year term, with a third of the Council positions available for nomination/election each year. Key areas of Council responsibility: Sets AGI policy Ensures that the AGI performs its legally responsible duties Ensures that the AGI is appropriately financially managed Ensures that the AGI is adequately resourced Ensures that it is kept informed of developments in the UK Regions and Europe that will have an impact on AGI policy Actively supports the promotion of the AGI Maintains the AGI constitution Supports portfolios for membership development, European topics, and the AGI Annual Conference and Exhibition.
